Sustainability
The circular economy is central to our sustainability approach
We are committed to supporting environmental sustainability by championing the global paradigm shift leading away from the linear economy towards a circular model.
The key objective of our sustainability strategy is to break the link between resource generation and economic growth by championing efficient use of the Earth's natural resources.
Visionscape has an ambitious Circular Economy roadmap, which includes resource recovery targets to stimulate sustainability efforts, boost industry competitiveness and foster return on investment and generate new jobs.
Road Map
We are leading the pathway towards zero waste by promoting sustainable waste management services in the products and services we offer.
Targets
- Improve our operational efficiency in collection, transportation and disposal of waste by up to 90% by 2027
- Reduce materials going to landfill to a maximum of 30% by 2027
- Increase our diversion rate for recyclables, preparation for reuse or composting by 70%
- Implement concrete measures to promote resource diversion and stimulate industrial symbiosis within the group -turning by-products into raw materials
We are taking proactive actions to contribute to sustainable development in our host communities by mitigating our risks and reducing or offsetting the negative environmental and social impact resulting from our business operations.
Targets
- Depend less on fossil fuels, transition to renewable energy sources and reduce our GHG emissions by 40%
- Create up to 40,000 direct and indirect inclusive employment opportunities in the regions we operate by 2027
We are working to empower future generations through our education and outreach initiatives. We deploy proactive and appropriate communication tools in order to engage and empower stakeholders and promote environmental sustainability.
Targets
- Promote the transition to a sustainable future through research, education and advocacy
Measuring and communicating results is central to the success of our sustainability roadmap. We measure our performance against our ambitious goals and similar industry benchmarks.
The world needs fundamental changes for sustainability, and we believe it is important for businesses to be part of the solution. Visionscape Group is committed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) focusing on implementing and incorporating long-term strategies and operations to drive both local and global prosperity across the world. The SDGs have been incorporated into our business practices and we are devoted to developing, aiding and assisting progress of:
Good Health and Well-being
Globally, initiatives have been made towards reducing child mortality, improving maternal health and fighting HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. However, today, there are still millions of deaths related to poor health and well-being, that can be avoided through prevention and treatment, education, immunization campaigns, and sexual and reproductive healthcare. Visionscape aims to substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination, and by providing comprehensive healthcare to low-cadre individuals across the communities we serve.
Quality Education
Achieving inclusive and quality education for all reaffirms the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development. Visionscape aims to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development by way of environmental literacy and education for sustainable developmentand sustainable lifestyles.
Gender Equality
To date, women and children continue to suffer discrimination in every society across the world. Gender equality is a crucial foundation to the development of a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Ensuring full and effective participation, and equal opportunities in leadership for women at all levels of decision making requires implementation in the public and private sectors. Visionscape aims to promote gender equality by maintaining a gender balance across all business functions.
Clean Water & Sanitation
More than 80% of wastewater resulting from human activities is discharged into rivers or seas without any pollution removal. Ensuring access to safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030 requires we invest in adequate infrastructure, provide sanitation facilities, and encourage hygiene at every level.
Affordable & Clean Energy
We are living in a global economy increasingly dependent on fossil fuels, which has led to drastic changes to our climate system. Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity, and is the dominant contributor to climate change, accounting for approximately 60% of total global greenhouse gas emissions. Adopting stronger efficiency standards and alternative ebergy solutions could reduce global electricity consumption by a significant amount. Vidionscape aims to increase the share and opportunities for green energy in the global energy mix, while promoting resource recovery and management to offer an alternative resource for manufacturing.
Decent Work & Economic Growth
As the global economy continues to recover we are seeing slower growth, widening inequalities, and not enough jobs to keep up with a growing ted labour force. According to the International Labour Organization, more than 204 million people were unemployed in 2015, and a further 470 million jobs are needed globally for new entrants to the labour market between 2016 and 2030. Visionscape aims to achieve higher levels of economic productivity and growth through diversification, technological upgrading and innovation, including through a focus on high-value added and labour-intensive sectors.
Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Basic infrastructure like roads, information and communications technologies, sanitation, electrical power and water remains scarse in many developing countries. Investment in infrastructure, innovation and sustainable industries are crucial drivers of economic growth, and to develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructures, inclusing regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all.
Sustainable Cities & Communities
More than half of the world's population now live in urban areas and by 2050, two-thirds of all humanity will live in urban areas. Sustainable development cannot be achieved without significantly transforming the way we build and manage our urban cities. 95% of urban expansion in the next few decades will take place in our developing world and this rapid urbanisation is exerting pressure on fresh water supplies, sewage, the living environment, and public health. It is therefore vital that we reduce the adverse per capita environmental impact of cities by paying special attention to air quality and municipal and other waste management.
Responsible Consumption & Production
Achieving economic growth and sustainable development requires that we urgently reduce our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume goods and resources. The efficient management of our shared natural resources, and the way we dispose of toxic waste and pollutants, are important targets to achieve this goal. Encouraging insustries, businesses and consumers to recycle and reduce waste is equally important, as is supporting developing countries to move towards more sustainable patterns of consumption by 2030. Visionscape aims to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse in our servicing communities, and ensuring people have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.
Climate Action
There is no country in the world that is not experiencing first-hand the drastic effects of climate change. Greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise and are now more than 50 percent higher than their 1990 level. Further, global warming is causing long-lasting changes to our climate system, which threatens irreversible consequences if we do not take action now. Visionscape aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by way of landfill and waste management, in orderto aid the reduction, the effects of climate change.
Climate Action
The United Nations has stated that the SDGs can only be realised with a strong commitment to global partnership and cooperation. The world today is more interconnected than ever before, Visionscape aims to expand on this by assisting efforts to improve access to technology, knowhow and capacity building as an important way to share ideas and foster innovation, as well as to work with governments and credible organisations to coordinate policies to help developing countries and support national plans to achieve ourtargets.
